Preamble to our 2025 Investing Strategy

Massive was founded in 2020 after many conversations between David and Ari reflecting on what we had learned about venture capital over our 20+ year careers starting, growing, and investing in startups. We outlined a great deal of this thinking in our Manifesto. Instead of starting Massive like a traditional venture fund, we began by investing our own capital to test and refine our thoughts on how venture capital could work. We were soon joined by many other successful founders and operators who were intrigued by our approach. The way we built Massive gave us the freedom to execute an evolved and opportunistic strategy - a focus on underwriting key inflection points in category-leading companies and serious innovators poised to disrupt industries that showed significant growth potential over time. We sought out companies tackling complex problems in massive markets that we believe could dominate their respective markets and impact the future.

Over time, we created the only true inflection point opportunity firm with a deep founder mentality.

In 2023 and ‘24, we organized our market focus into a few key domains where we had high conviction. While this approach served us well, as 2025 brings real economic changes, we decided to zoom in and refine our thinking.

As we reflected on this work and how we look ahead, what crystallized is that our investment thesis is really about executing against some big ideas - strategies we believe will foster world-changing companies in markets projected for substantial growth over the next decade. To highlight our thoughts, we’re launching our new Substack with this post, and will shortly follow up with a post on each of these ideas against which we are executing.

As we unveil our Massive Ideas - in the next few posts, we will share some of our thinking, where we are building exposure, and ultimately answer deeper questions as to why a lens that looks beyond the technology du-jour will result in a powerful and dynamic portfolio of impactful companies.
